Ben Webster (Northeastern University, Boston), laureate of a Junior Chair in 2013, is giving a 20 hours course entitled Higher representation theory in algebra and geometry.
Abstract
Categorical Lie algebra actions have shown themselves to be an important tool in recent years. They played a key role in representation theory of symmetric groups, in constructions of homological knot invariants and have shed new light on the theory of Cherednik algebras and the theory of quiver varieties. The course will give an overview of these actions, including definitions, examples and applications, which incorporate these different perspectives to the greatest degree possible, touching on algebra, geometry and topology.
